In the year 3000, deep in the recesses of a sprawling steel megalopolis known as Nueva Esja, the illicit night club Sens0ria pulses and throbs with the sounds of dance floor euphoria. These audial vibrations have echoed beyond the confines of time and space to materialize in the present day as 'Sensory Shell', a loose concept record inspired by Y2K rave culture, Aphex Twin's experimental ambient soundscapes, and Tsutomu Nihei's dystopian anime series 'Blame'. Pairing thudding breakbeats and rumbling basslines with celestial synths and delicate vocal fragments, the record's rhythms are as jolting as its electronics are lush. The resulting feeling is a kind of fraught ecstasy, like dancing away the final moments of eternity. Produced in late 2021 as quarantine restrictions were lifting and meticulously mixed over the following year, 'Sensory Shell' is plygid's most ambitious and accessible project to-date, featuring compositions with a yet unseen level of detail but also clear entry points for fans of the early aughts genres it pulls from. In addition to the music, plygid also created a series of 3D animations to accompany each of the album's singles, further establishing its severe and desolate urban setting.
